Steadfast Love: What the Seventh Commandment Is Really Protecting | Exodus 20:14

Steadfast Love: What the Seventh Commandment Is Really Protecting | Exodus 20:14

The Lord Speaks - Sunday, September 6, 2026

Two Hebrew words. "You shall not commit adultery."

But God isn't merely guarding sexual behavior. He is guarding a covenant union He designed to tell the truth about Himself.

In this message, Pastor David traces four movements through the seventh commandment — the boundary God protects, the blessing He reveals, the covenant He keeps, and the love He sends. From Genesis 1's picture of one-and-many, to ezer kenegdo (the woman as strong ally, not assistant), to Hosea and Gomer, to Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount exposing the lust that takes without asking — and finally to the cross, where the faithful God kept covenant with unfaithful people.

This is not just a sermon for married people. It is a call for everyone to be covenant-guarding people.

In this message:

  • Why God guards this boundary so fiercely — it's His self-portrait
  • Ezer kenegdo — what the woman's role in Genesis 2 actually means
  • The Hosea/Gomer thread and why Scripture uses adultery language for Israel's unfaithfulness
  • Jesus on lust: not a glance, but a sustained stare with intent — the same pattern as Eden
  • How Christ's blood establishes the new covenant for covenant-breakers

Key Scriptures:
Exodus 20:14 • Genesis 1:26–28; 2:18, 23–24 • Deuteronomy 7:7–9 • Hosea 1–3 • Matthew 5:27–28; 26:28 • Romans 5:8 • Ephesians 1; 5:25, 31–32 • 1 John 4:19

Update from the Upper Room, Dominican Republic

Update from the Upper Room, Dominican Republic

"We're involved this week with the last week of the summer, as the kids will go back to school next Monday.

As church, we've decided to support our students and their families with a back-to-school package... uniforms, backpacks and school supplies…

This is the message I shared with the church:

URF Family,

THANK YOU!

Today, through our Back to School Program, we were able to bless 20 children and teenagers from our church and ECO Youth Group.

We originally planned to help 17, but I want to give a very special shout-out to Belkis, who worked incredibly hard behind the scenes—hunting down deals, comparing prices, looking for donations, and stretching every dollar and peso we received. Because of her effort, we were able to go from 17 to 20 kids blessed!

Thank you, @⁨Belkis Rubio Decoración⁩ my love, for all the work that sometimes we underestimate but that made it possible for us to reach three more kids.

And something else made today even more special: almost all of their parents,  came and joined us with their children. We had the opportunity to welcome them, worship together, pray together, and give them a glimpse of what we get to do with their kids through ECO, our youth group.

That was part of the purpose from the beginning.

We didn't simply want to hand out backpacks, notebooks, and uniforms. We wanted these families to know:

*Your children matter to us. Their future matters to us. And your family matters to us.*

Thank you to everyone who gave, helped, served, and believed in this. And thank you in advance to those who committed to contribute and will still be completing their gifts. We still have a portion of what was purchased to cover, so those contributions are still very much needed and appreciated.

Today we got to live out 1 John 3:18:

*“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”*

Tomorrow, our kids go back to school with the supplies they need but also knowing that they have a church that loves them, prays for them, and is willing to invest in their lives.

Thank you, URF. We did this together.

*And above all, thank God for allowing us to be instruments of His love. All the glory belongs to Him.*”
